Find out how dental veneers can get you on your way to the smile you’ve always wanted.Veneers

Do you feel embarrassed by your smile? Do you try to cover it up as much as possible? Do you wish you felt more confident in your appearance but aesthetic issues stand in your way? If so, our Westminster, MD, dentist, Dr. Patrick Gallagher, might just have a solution for hiding these cosmetic flaws and finally giving you a smile to show off.

Your Consultation

This is the very first step to getting dental veneers and one that cannot be skipped. After all, our Westminster general dentist needs to make sure that you are right for dental veneers. He will sit down with you and discuss your treatment goals to make sure that veneers will meet your needs or if another cosmetic restoration would work better so that you can get the results you want. Dr. Gallagher will also need to examine your smile to make sure that it’s healthy and free of decay.

Tooth Preparation

In order to get veneers, your teeth will need to be prepped for them first. Don’t worry; the process is simple and painless. In order for veneers to fit properly, we will need to shave off some enamel from the front of your teeth (typically less than one millimeter). From there, we will also take impressions of your teeth, which will be used as a model from which design your very own set of veneers.

Veneer Fitting

You’ll come into the office one last time for your final fitting before you can display your amazing new smile. We will place the bonding resin between your veneers and the front of your teeth. You will be able to approve the final look before we use a special light to harden the resin, as well as your veneers, permanently to your teeth.

If you are ready to transform your smile and you think cosmetic veneers are the best way to go, then call Gallagher & Eden in Westminster, MD, today. We would be happy to schedule an appointment with you to find out if your teeth are healthy enough for this cosmetic treatment. Let’s get you that perfect smile!

For over three decades, veneers have helped mask dental imperfections like chipping, staining or gaps and improve the appearance of millions of teeth. As the name implies, this thin layer of porcelain covers a tooth's visible surface and accurately mimics the texture, color and translucence of natural teeth.

Veneers could be just the solution you need for a more attractive smile. But before you begin treatment, be sure you have these 3 essentials in place to ensure a successful outcome.

True expectations. While the transformation of a tooth's appearance with a veneer can be astounding, veneers in general do have their limitations. You need an adequate amount of the tooth's structure present for a veneer to properly adhere — if not, you may need to consider a porcelain crown instead. Likewise, gaps and other misalignments may be too great for a veneer to cover: in that case, you should consider orthodontics. A thorough examination beforehand will determine if veneers are the best option for you.

An artisan team. Every veneer is custom made to match an individual patient's tooth shape and color, handcrafted by a skilled dental technician. There's also an art to the dentist preparing the tooth beforehand and then properly positioning the veneer for bonding to achieve the most attractive result. Be sure, then, that your veneer "team" comes highly recommended by others.

The best materials. The first porcelains were powdered glass ceramics mixed with water to form a paste. Technicians shaped the paste in successive layers and as it oven-cured it took on the beautiful translucence of natural teeth. Unfortunately, this type of porcelain could be brittle and prone to shattering when subjected to heavy biting forces. In recent years, though, we've begun to use ceramics reinforced with other materials like Leucite for added strength. Today, the materials dentists use have much better durability.

If you would like more information on porcelain veneers, please contact us or schedule an appointment for a consultation. You can also learn more about this topic by reading the Dear Doctor magazine article “Porcelain Veneers.”

VivicasVeneerstheMakingofaHollywoodSmile

What's an actor's most important feature? According to Vivica A. Fox, whose most recent big-screen role was in Independence Day: Resurgence, it's what you see right up front.

"On screen, your smile and your eyes are the most inviting things that bring the audience in" she said. "Especially if you play the hot chick."

But like lots of people, Vivica reached a point where she felt her smile needed a little help in order to look its best. That's when she turned to a popular cosmetic dental treatment.

"I got veneers years ago," Ms. Fox told Dear Doctor magazine in a recent interview, "just because I had some gapping that probably only I noticed."

What exactly are dental veneers? Essentially, they are thin shells of lustrous porcelain that are permanently attached to the front surfaces of the teeth. Tough, lifelike and stain-resistant, they can cover up a number of defects in your smile — including stains, chips, cracks, and even minor spacing irregularities like the ones Vivica had.

Veneers have become the treatment of choice for Hollywood celebs — and lots of regular folks too — for many reasons. Unlike some treatments that can take many months, it takes just a few appointments to have veneers placed on your teeth. Because they are custom made just for you, they allow you to decide how bright you want your smile to be: anywhere from a natural pearly hue to a brilliant "Hollywood white." Best of all, they are easy to maintain, and can last for many years with only routine care.

To place traditional veneers, it's necessary to prepare the tooth by removing a small amount (a millimeter or two) of its enamel surface. This keeps it from feeling too big — but it also means the treatment can't be reversed, so once you get veneers, you'll always have them. In certain situations, "no-prep" or minimal-prep veneers, which require little or no removal of tooth enamel, may be an option for some people.

Veneers aren't the only way to create a better smile: Teeth whitening, crowns or orthodontic work may also be an alternative. But for many, veneers are the preferred option. What does Vivica think of hers?

"I love my veneers!" she declared, noting that they have held up well for over a decade.

Do you feel as though your teeth are subpar? If you have ever wished for a brand new smile, you are in luck. Dental veneers are a permanent and effective way to change the shape, size, length, and even color of your teeth. Learn more about dental veneers with your Westminster, MD dentist, Dr. Patrick Gallagher.Veneers

How do dental veneers work?
Dental veneers fit over the surface of a tooth to mask its imperfections, stains or improve its shape. Veneers can improve the look of chipped, cracked, discolored, yellowed, overcrowded or under crowded teeth. A dental laboratory creates each veneer separately and customizes them to fit into your smile based on an impression of your natural teeth. Made from porcelain, dental veneers have similar light-reflecting qualities as natural teeth and are stain-resistant. Veneers are a durable dental restoration made to last many years with the proper care.

Creating a New Smile With Dental Veneers in Westminster, MD
Veneers usually require only two dental appointments. The first appointment gives your dentist an opportunity to take an impression of your mouth which the laboratory uses to design your veneers. Additionally, this appointment is your time to ask any questions or address any concerns you may have. Your dentist then prepares the teeth by shaving a tiny amount of enamel from their surfaces. Temporary veneers protect your teeth until the dental laboratory completes the final restorations. At your second appointment, your dentist removes the temporary veneers then fits, adheres and cleans up the permanent veneers.

Caring for Your Veneers
A good candidate for dental veneers should have a strong at-home oral care routine. This is necessary to avoid complications like tooth decay or gum disease which could shorten the life of your veneers. Caring for your veneers is easy. Simply brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and floss at least once to keep both your veneers and natural teeth healthy between bi-annual dental examinations and cleanings.

Find out how veneers can give you the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

How many times have you hidden your smile from others because dental stains, chips or other imperfections embarrassed you? What if your Westminster dentist Dr. Patrick Gallagher told you that you don’t need to feel this way any longer? Discover how dental veneers Veneers can painlessly and quickly boost your smile’s esthetics for life.

What are dental veneers?

Veneers are thin, porcelain shells that are applied to the front part of each tooth to change the shape, color or overall look of your smile. Veneers can even be used to brighten or straighten a smile.

What makes veneers such a popular cosmetic option is that they are translucent just like natural tooth structures, so no one will be able to tell that your smile isn’t all natural.

Who should get dental veneers?

You could benefit from getting dental veneers in Westminster, MD if you have teeth that:

  • Are stained or severely discolored
  • Are misshapen or uneven
  • Are chipped or worn down
  • Have small gaps
  • Are a bit crooked

If you are currently dealing with any of these issues dental veneers may be able to help. There are so many cosmetic options for those looking for straighter, whiter smiles and we are happy to talk to you about the best treatment options.

What makes dental veneers different from other cosmetic treatments like crowns?

While dental restorations all offer their own benefits, other dental work like crowns or bridges are designed for more serious issues like missing or severely damaged teeth that require extensive treatment in order for the natural tooth structure to be preserved.

Therefore, dental veneers are the best option for those only looking to improve surface issues like stains and chips. On the other hand, a dental crown covers over the entire tooth, which requires us to remove more of your natural enamel to accommodate your crown. If your smile functions perfectly but is in need of a cosmetic lift then veneers could help.

Do dental veneers sound like the perfect cosmetic treatment for you? If so, then it’s time that you turned to your Westminster, MD cosmetic dentist to find out if veneers are right for your smile.
